## How much does Perplexity cost in 2026?

**Answer:** Perplexity costs $0 on Free, $20 a month or $200 a year for Pro, and $200 a month or $2,000 a year for Max. Education Pro is $10 a month with verification, and Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max seats are $40 and $325 a month.

Perplexity's help center states the Pro, Max and Enterprise prices. Its pricing page shows the annual plans as monthly equivalents, $17 a month for Pro and $167 a month for Max when billed annually. Annual billing for Max is only available on the web, not in the mobile apps.

perplexity.ai/pro and perplexity.ai/max are JavaScript pages that returned no readable text to us, so the help center, the pricing page and Apple's App Store listing are the sources here. On the web you can choose your local currency or US dollars at checkout, and app-store purchases do not offer that choice.
- Free: $0.
- Pro: $20 a month or $200 a year ($17 a month when billed annually).
- Education Pro: $10 a month for verified students and educators.
- Max: $200 a month or $2,000 a year ($167 a month when billed annually).
- Enterprise Pro: $40 a month or $400 a year per seat.
- Enterprise Max: $325 a month or $3,250 a year per seat.

## What does each Perplexity plan include, and who is it for?

**Answer:** Pro is the standard paid plan for frequent research, file analysis and image generation. Max adds the highest model access, 10,000 Computer credits a month and early access, and the Enterprise plans add per-seat pricing, admin controls and data that is never used for training.

Free (Standard) gives basic searches with no stated cap, a very limited number of Pro Searches and limited file uploads, and Perplexity picks the model for you. Pro adds extended Pro Search, advanced AI models, image and video generation, higher upload limits, a limited number of Create files and apps queries every 30 days, and up to 50 file uploads per project.

Max includes everything in Pro plus the highest level of access to advanced models, extended Create files and apps limits, early access to new products, and Brain, a Research Preview memory system for Computer. Max is available only for consumers on a Free or Pro plan, and Enterprise users are pointed to Enterprise Max instead.

Education Pro costs $10 a month for verified students and educators and includes everything in Pro. Enterprise Pro costs $40 a seat a month and Enterprise Max $325, and Perplexity says an organization's data is never used to train its models. Eligible schools and nonprofits can get Enterprise Pro at $30 a seat a month or $300 a seat a year.
- Free: $0, the Standard plan.
- Pro: $20, adds Pro Search, advanced models, images and video, and Computer access.
- Max: $200, adds the highest model limits, Model Council on web and 10,000 monthly credits.
- Education Pro: $10, the same as Pro for verified students and educators.
- Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max: per seat, with admin controls, single sign-on and no training on your data.

## Is Perplexity free, and what are the Free plan's limits?

**Answer:** Yes, Perplexity's Standard plan is free. It gives basic searches with no stated cap but only 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month, limited file uploads, no choice of advanced models and no Computer.

The plan comparison table lists Free at 3 Pro Searches a day and 1 Research query a month, with no Comet Assistant queries, no advanced AI models and no File and App Creation. On Free, Perplexity's automatic Best option picks a model for each query, and you cannot choose an advanced Search model manually.

Image generation on Free is a conflict inside Perplexity's own help pages. The plan guide and the plan table say Free has no image generation, while the image-generation article says the Free plan gets limited image generations. Treat Free image generation as not verified.

Computer is not available on free accounts, so you cannot use Computer credits without a paid plan. Perplexity's Ask searches stay available on Free and do not use credits.
- Free includes: basic searches with no stated cap, 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month, limited file uploads, search history.
- Free does not include: advanced model choice, Comet Assistant queries, File and App Creation, Computer.
- Not verified: image generation on Free, because Perplexity's pages disagree.

## How do Perplexity credits work, and what runs out first?

**Answer:** Perplexity charges credits only for Computer tasks, at 100 credits to the dollar. Pro includes a weekly amount of Computer usage instead of monthly credits, Max includes 10,000 credits a month, and Ask searches never use credits, so Pro Search limits and Computer usage are separate meters.

Perplexity's help center says that today 100 credits equals $1, that a quick fact uses about 15 to 70 credits, and that bigger projects use more. Consumer Pro plans do not start with a set monthly amount. Paid Pro plans include weekly Computer usage instead, which resets every week, does not roll over and is not a credit type. Without credits, that included usage runs Computer on the Light effort setting only, and higher effort settings use it up faster.

Included weekly usage is rolling out gradually, so check for 'Included in Pro' on your Usage page. It is not included with promotional or non-paying Pro plans, Max plans or Enterprise plans. Max starts with 10,000 credits a month. New subscribers may also get a limited-time bonus of 4,000 credits on Pro or 35,000 on Max, which expires in about 30 days and is given once per account.

Computer spends included weekly usage first on a paid Pro plan, then bonus credits, then monthly credits, then purchased credits. Unused monthly credits do not roll over, and purchased credits expire if you do not use Computer for one year. When credits run out, active tasks pause and new tasks are blocked until you add credits or they refresh. Auto-refill is off until you turn it on, and it triggers at 500 credits on Pro and 2,500 on Max. Max accounts have a default monthly spending cap of $200 that you can raise to $5,000, and Pro accounts also have a cap.
- Ask searches, and Comet Assistant in Search mode, do not use credits.
- Computer tasks, and Comet Assistant in Work mode, do use credits.
- Pro: weekly included Computer usage, no monthly credits, and a possible limited-time bonus of 4,000 credits.
- Max: 10,000 credits a month and a possible limited-time bonus of 35,000 credits.
- Enterprise plans start with a monthly allocation: 500 credits on Enterprise Pro and 15,000 on Enterprise Max.

## What does a Perplexity Computer task actually cost?

**Answer:** At 100 credits to the dollar, Perplexity's own typical ranges work out to about $0.15 to $0.70 for a quick fact, $3.50 to $9.50 for a multi-step research report, $24 to $98 for a data dashboard and $150 or more for an entire app. These are Perplexity's examples, not guarantees.

The dollar figures are FluxGravity's arithmetic on Perplexity's published credit ranges, using its statement that 100 credits equals $1. Perplexity says actual usage may differ, and credits depend on the work Computer performs, not a fixed price per task.

Computer offers four effort settings, Light, Standard, High and Ultra. Perplexity says lower settings use less expensive models, so the same task generally uses fewer credits on Light than on Ultra. An effort setting is not a spending cap and Light does not guarantee a credit total, so set a monthly spending limit if cost matters.

Two ways to spend less are named in the help center. Use Ask instead of Computer for questions, since Ask does not use credits. On supported NVIDIA hardware, Portable Computer runs on your own device and its work does not consume credits.
- Quick fact or definition: 15 to 70 credits, about $0.15 to $0.70.
- Multi-step research report: 350 to 950 credits, about $3.50 to $9.50.
- Data dashboard: 2,400 to 9,800 credits, about $24 to $98.
- Entire app or multi-day build: 15,000 credits or more, about $150 or more.

## What does Perplexity cost on top of the plan price?

**Answer:** Credits for Computer, the API and a few billing traps are the extras: credits are bought separately at 100 to the dollar, API usage is billed apart with no free API credits, and paying or upgrading through the wrong channel can create a second subscription.

Credit packs in the iOS app are listed at 500 credits for $5, 1,000 for $10, 2,500 for $25 and 5,000 for $50, which matches the 100 credits to the dollar rate. Perplexity's credits article says credits are non-refundable except in specific situations, such as a task that failed on Perplexity's side or an unauthorized charge.

Perplexity warns not to update your payment information through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, because that creates a new, separate subscription and you will be charged. If you subscribed to Pro on the web, upgrade to Max on the web too, because upgrading in a mobile app creates a new separate Max subscription alongside your Pro subscription.

A trial or promotional subscription needs a valid credit or debit card and renews at the standard rate unless you cancel before the trial ends. Enterprise buyers should note that removing a member does not reduce the seats purchased or create a credit, and a seat reduction takes effect at the start of the next billing period. Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max also do not include API access.

Images generated on Free, Pro and Max are for personal, non-commercial use only under Perplexity's help page, while Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max users may use images commercially. The same help page points to the Terms of Service for more detail, which we did not read.
- Computer credits: 100 credits to the dollar; packs from $5 in the iOS app.
- API: billed separately; the plan guide lists no complimentary API credits.
- Payment changes in an app store: create a new, separate subscription.
- Pro to Max upgrade in a mobile app: creates a second subscription.
- Images on Free, Pro and Max: personal, non-commercial use only.

## Can Perplexity generate images and videos?

**Answer:** Yes, on paid plans. Pro and Max subscribers generate images by describing them in a prompt, and Pro and Max subscribers can also generate videos of up to 8 seconds, with usage limits that Perplexity does not publish as numbers.

The image models on offer are GPT Image 1 from OpenAI, Nano Banana from Google (Max and Enterprise Max users get Nano Banana Pro) and Seedream 4.5 from Bytedance, and you can set a default in settings. Regenerating an image counts as a new generation, and image limits reset on a rolling basis rather than on a fixed date. Perplexity does not show the number of generations left.

Video uses Veo 3.1 for Pro and Max subscribers. Each video is up to 8 seconds long and may include audio. You cannot choose the video model, and generated videos cannot be edited. Perplexity says it cannot give exact numbers, that Max subscribers get the highest monthly allocation, and that you cannot buy more video credits, so you wait for a rolling 30-day refresh.

Commercial use is limited. Images made on Free, Pro and Max plans are for personal, non-commercial use only, and the help page points to the Terms of Service, which we did not read. Enterprise Max includes 15 videos a month, each 8 seconds long.
- Image models: GPT Image 1, Nano Banana (Nano Banana Pro on Max), Seedream 4.5.
- Video: Veo 3.1, up to 8 seconds per video, no editing after generation.
- Limits: not published as numbers; video credits refresh on a rolling 30-day basis.
- Free image generation: not verified, because Perplexity's pages disagree.

## Which AI models does each Perplexity plan include?

**Answer:** Pro includes Perplexity's Sonar 2 plus models from OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Moonshot AI, Z.ai, xAI and NVIDIA, and Max adds GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 and Model Council on web. Perplexity says the list is a snapshot dated September 4, 2026 and can change.

On Pro and Max, the Search models listed are Sonar 2, GPT-5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.7 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, Kimi K3, GLM 5.3, Grok 4.6 and Nemotron 3 Ultra. GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 are listed as Max only. Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max list the same ten models, with GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Opus 5 on both Enterprise tiers.

Perplexity says its model selector is always the source of truth for your account, and that trials, rollouts, regions and Enterprise settings can change what you see. Several older help pages still name earlier models, such as GPT-5.2, Claude Sonnet 4.6 and Gemini 3.1 Pro on the Pro page, so use the dated snapshot and your own selector.

Model Council runs one question across several models and merges a single answer. On web and in the iOS app it is included with Max and Enterprise Max at a monthly query cap, and it is not available on Free, Pro, Education Pro or Enterprise Pro. In Computer, Model Council is available on all paid plans and spends credits.
- Pro and Max: Sonar 2, GPT-5.6 Terra, Gemini 3.7 Flash, Claude Sonnet 5, Kimi K3, GLM 5.3, Grok 4.6, Nemotron 3 Ultra.
- Max only: GPT-5.6 Sol, Claude Opus 5.
- Model Council on web: Max and Enterprise Max, with a monthly cap.

## Which Perplexity plan should you get, and is it worth it?

**Answer:** Start on Free if you ask occasional questions, move to Pro ($20) when you research often, analyze files or generate images, and consider Max ($200) only if you are a power user of deep research and Create files and apps. Whether it is worth it depends on your use, which this desk research cannot test.

Perplexity's own guidance says to choose Free if you are a light user, Pro if you want advanced AI, frequent research, file analysis or image generation, and Max if you are a power user who often does deep research and wants to maximize Create files and apps. It recommends Education Pro for students and educators, Enterprise Pro for organizations that need collaboration, security and admin controls, and the API Platform for developers.

You can test cheaply. Free gives 3 Pro Searches a day. After you subscribe, customers outside the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil can request a refund up to 24 hours after a monthly purchase or within 72 hours of an annual one, and the EU and UK window is 14 days. Cancelling does not pause a plan: subscription pausing is not available, and a plan you do not renew reverts to Free after the billing cycle.
- Occasional questions: Free, $0.
- Frequent research, file analysis or image generation: Pro, $20 a month or $200 a year.
- Heavy deep research, lots of Create files and apps work, or Model Council: Max, $200 a month.
- Student or educator: Education Pro, $10 a month after SheerID verification.
- A team that needs admin controls and no training on its data: Enterprise Pro at $40 a seat or Enterprise Max at $325.
- Building search into your own product: the API Platform, billed per request or token.
- Mostly Computer tasks: compare your typical tasks with the credit table before choosing Pro or Max.

## How does Perplexity pricing compare with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and FluxGravity?

**Answer:** At the standard tier, Perplexity Pro ($20), ChatGPT Plus ($20), Claude Pro ($20) and Google AI Pro ($19.99) sit within a dollar of each other, while Grok has no $20 tier and FluxGravity's Pro plan is $20 a month, priced in credits. Heavy-use tiers start at $100 for ChatGPT Pro and Claude Max and cost $200 for Perplexity Max and Grok Ultra.

These are plain facts from each vendor's own pages. They do not show which product gives more work for the money, because each vendor measures usage differently: Perplexity in weekly limits plus Computer credits, Grok in multiples of Plus, Claude in multiples of Pro, Google in multiples of its free limits, and FluxGravity in monthly credits.

FluxGravity wrote this page and is included because readers comparing Perplexity plans may also be weighing a paid AI workspace. FluxGravity's Free plan gives 100 credits once, and its Spark, Pro and Ultra plans give 650, 2,800 and 7,000 credits a month at $5, $20 and $50. Paid credits renew monthly and do not roll over. Cost per document, deck or video is not known for any of these products, so this page does not compare cost per output.
- Perplexity: Pro $20, Max $200, Enterprise Pro $40 a seat.
- ChatGPT: Go $8, Plus $20, Pro from $100, Business $20 a user billed annually.
- Claude: Pro $20 ($17 billed annually), Max from $100, Team standard seat $20 billed annually.
- Gemini: Google AI Plus $4.99, AI Pro $19.99, AI Ultra from $99.99.
- Grok: Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200.
- FluxGravity: Spark $5, Pro $20, Ultra $50 ($4, $16 and $40 a month billed annually).

## How much does the Perplexity API cost, and is it included?

**Answer:** The Perplexity API is billed separately from any subscription: the Search API costs $5 per 1,000 requests ($1 with Fast Search), and Agent API usage is billed per token at each model's rates plus tool fees such as $2.50 per 1,000 standard web searches. The plan pages list no free API credits.

Perplexity's plan guide describes the API Platform as pay-as-you-go, with credits you buy or an auto top-off, no complimentary API credits and no data logging or storage. It adds that the API Platform has no access to advanced models or Pro features in the web or app interface. Max's help page says its model access applies within Perplexity web and not to programmatic access through the API.

On the API pricing page, a successful Search API request is one billing unit even when it holds up to five queries. Agent API tools are billed per call: fetch_url $0.0005, people_search and finance_search $0.005 each, and a sandbox session $0.03 for up to 20 minutes of active use. Embeddings start at $0.004 per million tokens. Per-model token rates are on a separate Agent API models page that we did not read.
- Search API: $5.00 per 1,000 requests; Fast Search $1.00 per 1,000.
- Web search tool in the Agent API: $0.0025 per invocation, or $2.50 per 1,000.
- Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max: no API access included.
- Pro and Max subscriptions: no API credits listed in the pages we read (not verified).

## How do you cancel Perplexity or get a refund?

**Answer:** Cancel on the platform where you bought: Settings, then Subscription, on the web, or the App Store or Google Play for app purchases. Outside the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil, refunds are available for 24 hours after a monthly purchase and 72 hours after an annual one.

On the web, go to Settings, find Subscription, choose Manage Subscription and then Cancel subscription. Deleting your account does not end a subscription, so cancel first. After you cancel, the account reverts to the free version at the end of the current billing cycle, and you can reactivate later from the same Subscription settings.

Refund windows are 14 days in the EU, UK and Turkey and 7 days in South Korea and Brazil, for monthly and annual plans. Everywhere else it is 24 hours for monthly and 72 hours for annual plans. Perplexity's Max page says 48 hours for annual plans, which conflicts with the Refunds page, so rely on the dedicated Refunds page and ask support if you are near the limit.

App-store purchases follow the store: request Apple refunds through reportaproblem.apple.com, and for Google Play contact Perplexity support with your Google Play email. Perplexity cannot process a second refund request after a first one is granted, and a terminated account gets no refund for remaining credit or prepaid service.
- Web: Settings, Subscription, Manage Subscription, Cancel subscription.
- iPhone: App Store, profile, Subscriptions, Perplexity.
- Android: Google Play, Payments and subscriptions, Perplexity.
- No pausing: if you cannot pay, cancel and resubscribe later.

## Perplexity vs ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and FluxGravity: plan prices

US list prices read from each vendor's own pages on October 18, 2026, in US dollars before tax. FluxGravity published this page and is listed last; the order is not a ranking. 'Not listed' and 'not verified' mean the page we read did not state it. Prices are plain facts, not a claim about cost per output.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Perplexity actually worth it?

That depends on how you use it, and this desk research cannot test output. Perplexity's own advice is Free for light use, Pro ($20) for advanced AI, frequent research, file analysis or image generation, and Max ($200) for power users. You can check fit cheaply: Free gives 3 Pro Searches a day, and outside the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil a monthly plan is refundable for 24 hours.

### How much will AI actually cost?

On October 18, 2026, the individual plans compared here run from $0 on free tiers to $4.99 to $20 for standard paid plans and $99.99 to $500 for heavy-use tiers, with ChatGPT Pro reaching $500. Usage-based agent work costs more: Perplexity's typical Computer tasks run from about $0.15 for a quick fact to about $150 for an entire app, at 100 credits to the dollar. Those are Perplexity's ranges, not guarantees.

### Can Perplexity AI generate images?

Yes, on paid plans. Pro subscribers describe an image in a prompt and can pick GPT Image 1, Nano Banana or Seedream 4.5, with Nano Banana Pro on Max. Images made on Free, Pro and Max are for personal, non-commercial use only. Whether Free can generate images is not verified, because Perplexity's pages disagree.

### What is the valuation of Perplexity?

Perplexity's pricing and help pages state no valuation. Its Series B post of January 4, 2024 says it raised $73.6 million and $100 million to date, without naming a valuation. Third-party reports exist, but we did not verify any of them, and a company's valuation does not change what you pay for a plan.

### How much does Perplexity Pro cost?

Perplexity Pro costs $20 a month or $200 a year, which Perplexity's pricing page shows as $17 a month when billed annually. Education Pro costs $10 a month for verified students and educators. Prices exclude tax and can differ by country and store.

### Is there a free version of Perplexity?

Yes. The Standard plan is free and gives basic searches with no stated cap, 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month and limited file uploads. It does not include Computer, advanced model choice or Comet Assistant queries.

### Is Perplexity Max worth $200 a month?

Max costs $200 a month or $2,000 a year and adds the highest model access, 10,000 Computer credits a month, Model Council on web and early access. Perplexity recommends it for power users who often do deep research and use Create files and apps heavily. If you rarely hit Pro's weekly limits, the documented extras may not matter to you.

### How do Perplexity Computer credits work?

Credits pay for Computer tasks only, at 100 credits to the dollar. Pro includes weekly Computer usage, Max includes 10,000 credits a month, and unused monthly credits do not roll over. Ask searches do not use credits, auto-refill is off until you turn it on, and Max accounts have a default $200 monthly spending cap.

### Does Perplexity Pro include API credits?

The pages we read list no API credits with Pro or Max, and the plan guide says the API Platform has no complimentary API credits (promotions not verified). The API is pay-as-you-go: the Search API costs $5 per 1,000 requests. Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max do not include API access either.

### Is there a student discount for Perplexity?

Yes. Education Pro costs $10 a month for verified students and educators, verified through SheerID, and includes everything in Pro. Eligible schools and nonprofits can also get Enterprise Pro at $30 a seat a month or $300 a seat a year.

### Can I get a refund on Perplexity?

Yes, within a window. It is 14 days in the EU, UK and Turkey, 7 days in South Korea and Brazil, and elsewhere 24 hours for a monthly plan and 72 hours for an annual plan. Perplexity's Max page says 48 hours for annual plans, which conflicts with its Refunds page.

### How does Perplexity pricing compare with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok?

The standard tier is $20 for Perplexity Pro, ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro and $19.99 for Google AI Pro, while Grok offers Plus at $8 and Premium at $30. Heavy-use tiers start at $100 for ChatGPT Pro and Claude Max, $99.99 for Google AI Ultra and $200 for Perplexity Max and Grok Ultra. Each vendor measures usage differently, so price alone does not show which gives more work.
