## Stay with HeyGen for its avatar tools. Look elsewhere for price, limits or a different job.

FluxGravity wrote this comparison. It is listed last and does not list avatar or lip-sync video, so it is not a HeyGen replacement for presenter videos. It is included for explainer videos made without a presenter, as one output of a larger brief.
- **$5.9** lowest avatar-tool entry plan, D-ID Lite

## Who should stay with HeyGen, and who should look elsewhere?

**Answer:** Stay with HeyGen if you need its avatar and translation tools and can budget in credits. Look elsewhere if you want a free plan with more minutes, a lower entry price, fixed-price team seats, or a video without a presenter.

HeyGen's pricing page lists a Free plan (3 videos a month, up to 1 minute each), Creator at $29 a month ($24 billed annually, 600 credits), Pro from $49 ($41 billed annually, 1,000 credits) and Business at $149 plus $20 per extra seat ($119 billed annually, 1,500 credits). Paid plans list 175+ languages and dialects, voice cloning and 700+ stock avatars, and Business adds SSO, SCORM export and LMS integrations.

Stay if you need presenter-style avatar videos in many languages, video translation, or Business features such as SSO and SCORM export. Look elsewhere if a one-minute, watermarked Free plan is too tight, if you prefer minutes to credits, or if the job is not an avatar video at all. Each alternative below is described from its own pricing page, and none was tested for this page.
- Stay with HeyGen: avatar videos, translation, Business SSO and SCORM export.
- Look at Synthesia or Colossyan: training and business video with minute allowances.
- Look at D-ID: the lowest entry price among the avatar tools here.
- Look at Hedra: talking-character and lip-sync generation priced by credits.
- Look at FluxGravity only for explainers without a presenter.

## Why do people look for HeyGen alternatives?

**Answer:** The documented reasons are plan limits and credit rules: the Free plan is capped and watermarked, Creator and Pro have no one-time credit packs, premium avatar models use many credits a minute, and Business adds a charge per extra seat.

HeyGen's pricing page lists 3 free videos a month of up to 1 minute each, while its help center says the Free plan gives 1 to 3 free videos depending on region. HeyGen's watermark article says free videos automatically include the HeyGen watermark with no option to remove it; watermark removal comes with Creator and above.

Credits are the other pressure point. HeyGen's help center says Creator does not support one-time credit purchases, Pro scales by choosing a higher tier rather than buying packs, and Business can buy credits at $0.05 each in blocks of 100 for $5. Monthly subscribers' unused credits roll over for one more cycle, annual subscribers' credits accumulate until renewal, and credits do not carry over after you cancel.

Rates matter more than totals. The help center lists Avatar IV at 16 credits a minute for a photo look and 31 for a video look, Avatar V at 48, and video translation with lip-sync at 6 or 10. By our arithmetic, Creator's 600 credits cover about 19 minutes of Avatar IV video looks (600 divided by 31) or about 37 minutes of photo looks (600 divided by 16). HeyGen says rates can vary by account and shows the cost in the product before you generate.
- Free: watermark stays; 1 minute per video.
- Creator and Pro: no one-time credit packs.
- Avatar IV: 16 or 31 credits a minute; Avatar V: 48.
- Extra Video Avatar slots: $29 a month or $300 a year.

## How do the HeyGen alternatives compare on price, free access and limits?

**Answer:** Among the avatar tools, entry paid plans run from $5.9 a month (D-ID Lite) to $89 (Colossyan Professional, or $59 billed annually), and free access ranges from a 14-day trial to 10 free minutes a month.

The first table covers free access, entry price, limits and fit. The second lists every plan we checked, monthly and annual, so you can see the full ladder. The third shows HeyGen's credit rates, and the fourth puts Synthesia and HeyGen side by side because that is the comparison people ask for most.

Compare carefully: HeyGen meters use in credits, Synthesia in minutes and credits, D-ID and Colossyan in minutes, and Hedra in credits per second. A plan with more credits does not automatically make more video. FluxGravity is in the table because it wrote this page, and its row states what it does not list.
- Table 1: free option, entry price, limits, best for.
- Table 2: every plan, monthly and annual.
- Table 3: HeyGen credit rates.
- Table 4: Synthesia and HeyGen side by side.

## Synthesia: a free plan with 10 minutes a month, paid plans from $29

**Answer:** Synthesia's free Basic plan gives 10 minutes of video a month with a watermark; paid plans are Starter at $29 a month ($18 billed yearly) and Pro at $89 ($64 yearly), with Enterprise by contact.

Synthesia's pricing page says Basic is free and includes 10 minutes of video, 3 survey responses and 500 credits every month, and that videos carry a Synthesia watermark. Starter is $29 a month with 1,250 credits, or $18 a month billed yearly with 15,000 credits a year, and removes the Synthesia logo. Pro is $89 a month with 6,000 credits, or $64 a month billed yearly with 72,000 credits a year, and lists 5 personal avatars and branded video pages.

Synthesia says a typical finished minute uses about 100 credits, counted on the avatar footage generated, and dubbing costs 80 credits a minute with lip-sync or 40 without. The monthly allowance resets each billing period and does not roll over, credits you buy separately last 12 months, and when you hit your limit video creation pauses until the plan renews or you add credits. Synthesia says you cannot pay per video.

Best for: training and business video where a minutes-based allowance and a free plan to test suit you. Not for: anyone who needs a pay-per-video price or a free plan without a watermark. See Synthesia's pricing page for current prices in your currency, because the page showed rupees to our location.
- Basic: $0, 10 minutes of video, 500 credits a month, watermark.
- Starter: $29 monthly or $18 billed yearly; logo removed.
- Pro: $89 monthly or $64 billed yearly; 5 personal avatars.
- Enterprise: custom, unlimited video minutes.

## D-ID: the lowest entry price here, with watermark rules by plan

**Answer:** D-ID's Trial is $0 for 14 days with 3 minutes of video; paid plans are Lite at $5.9 a month ($4.7 billed annually), Pro at $29 ($16) and Advanced at $196 ($108).

D-ID's pricing page lists a Trial with 3 minutes for videos, agents, Video Translate and API, 100+ stock AI avatars, 1 personal avatar, a full-screen watermark and a personal use license. Lite adds 10 minutes a month, photo and 2 video avatars and a D-ID watermark. Pro adds 15 minutes a month, 3 personal avatars, premium voices, 1 voice clone, an AI watermark and a commercial use license. Advanced lists 100 minutes a month, 5 personal avatars, 3 voice clones and a custom logo.

Annual prices on the page are $56 a year for Lite, $191 for Pro and $1,293 for Advanced, shown as 20% to 45% discounts. Lite, Pro and Advanced also list a first-month offer of videos with no cap under a fair-use policy. Enterprise is custom, with no cap on video minutes and custom API minutes.

Best for: a low entry price, API access and short monthly volumes. Not for: anyone who needs a free plan beyond a 14-day trial, or a commercial license on the cheapest plan, since the page lists that from Pro.
- Trial: $0 for 14 days, 3 minutes, full-screen watermark.
- Lite: $5.9 monthly, $4.7 billed annually, 10 minutes a month.
- Pro: $29 monthly, $16 annually, 15 minutes, commercial use license.
- Advanced: $196 monthly, $108 annually, 100 minutes.

## Colossyan: a free Starter plan and SCORM export for training

**Answer:** Colossyan's Starter plan is free with 20 minutes a month on its NEO avatars; Professional is $89 a month, or $59 a month billed annually, and adds watermark removal and up to 3 editors.

Colossyan's pricing page lists Starter as free, with 20 minutes a month on NEO avatars, 15 custom avatars, 3 cloned voices, 10 interactive videos and 15 auto-translations a month, and a 20 minute video length limit. Professional adds 30 minutes a month on NEO and 10 on NEO2, unlimited MP4 downloads, watermark removal, 5 SCORM exports a month, AI image generation, 20 custom avatars and up to 3 editors. Additional editors are $45 a month on monthly billing or $30 on annual.

Unused minutes do not roll over, drafts do not count toward your allowance, and deleting a generated video does not give minutes back. Annual plans receive the year's minutes at purchase. Studio custom avatars are an add-on at $1,000 a year, and Enterprise lists unlimited minutes, SSO and data residency.

Best for: training and enablement teams that need SCORM export and interactive videos. Not for: a free plan with watermark removal, which the page lists from Professional.
- Starter: free, 20 minutes a month on NEO.
- Professional: $89 monthly, $59 billed annually; 3 editors.
- Extra editors: $45 monthly, $30 annual.
- Studio custom avatars: $1,000 a year add-on.

## Hedra: credit plans from $20 a month and a pay-as-you-go API

**Answer:** Hedra's Studio plans are Basic at $20 a month (2,000 credits), Pro at $50 (7,200) and Ultra at $100 (18,000), plus Teams at $75; its pricing page lists no free plan.

Hedra's Studio pricing page lists Basic ($20 a month, 2,000 credits, slower generations), Pro ($50, 7,200 credits, faster generation) and Ultra ($100, 18,000 credits, fastest generation), with commercial use listed on each. Teams is $75 a month with 14,400 credits, and Enterprise is custom. Annual prices were not shown, so they are not verified.

Hedra's FAQ says monthly credits do not carry over between billing cycles, credit packs do not expire, and credits for video are charged by the length of the generated video. After you cancel you lose most functionality apart from limited watermarked generations. The API is separate: a prepaid dollar balance with no subscription, seats or minimum, with avatar and lip-sync generation from 2.5 cents a second and video generation from 1.13 cents a second.

Best for: talking-character and lip-sync generation priced by credits or by the second. Not for: anyone who wants a free plan listed on the pricing page, since we could not verify one.
- Basic: $20 a month, 2,000 credits.
- Pro: $50 a month, 7,200 credits. Ultra: $100, 18,000 credits.
- API: avatar and lip-sync from 2.5 cents a second.
- Free plan: none listed; not verified.

## Where does FluxGravity fit, and where does it not?

**Answer:** FluxGravity is not a HeyGen replacement for presenter videos: its pricing page does not list avatar or lip-sync video. It fits when you want an explainer video with no on-screen presenter, such as a faceless explainer or whiteboard video, as one output of a larger brief.

FluxGravity wrote this page and sells the product, so treat this section as a disclosure. FluxGravity is an AI workspace and agent that turns a brief into finished work: documents, PDFs, slide decks, spreadsheets and graphs, whiteboard and explainer videos, motion graphics, research reports and social posts. It is made by FluxNote, LLC. It is listed last here because it does not list the avatar and translation tools that make the other tools HeyGen alternatives.

FluxGravity's pricing page lists faceless explainers, whiteboard videos, maths animations, motion graphics, product launch and ad videos, music videos and animated decks among its motion and storytelling workflows, which are part of all 39 workflows on Spark, Pro and Ultra. The Free plan lists the documents and slides workflows. Plans are Free ($0, 100 one-time credits), Spark ($5 a month, $4 billed annually, 650 credits), Pro ($20, $16, 2,800) and Ultra ($50, $40, 7,000). Paid credits renew monthly and do not roll over.

If you need a digital presenter that speaks your script, a lip-synced video translation or custom avatars, choose one of the tools above, because FluxGravity's pricing page lists none of those. FluxGravity's cost per output is not known, and we did not test FluxGravity against HeyGen or any tool here.
- Fits: faceless explainers and whiteboard videos from a brief.
- Does not list: avatar video, lip sync or video translation.
- Plans: Free $0, Spark $5, Pro $20, Ultra $50 a month (20% less billed annually).

## Synthesia or HeyGen: how do the plans compare?

**Answer:** We did not test either tool, so we cannot say which is better. On paper both start at $29 a month, Synthesia offers 10 free minutes a month and HeyGen 3 free videos of up to a minute, and they meter paid use differently.

HeyGen Creator is $29 a month ($24 billed annually) for 600 credits, and Synthesia Starter is $29 a month ($18 billed yearly) for 1,250 credits plus 10 free minutes. At the next step HeyGen Pro is $49 a month ($41 annually) and Synthesia Pro is $89 ($64 yearly). Both remove the vendor watermark on their first paid plan.

The difference to weigh is metering. HeyGen charges credits per minute of generated output, such as 16 or 31 for Avatar IV, while Synthesia counts about 100 credits for a typical finished minute and gives every plan 10 minutes a month. HeyGen's monthly credits roll over for one more cycle; Synthesia's monthly allowance does not roll over. Run the same short script in both free plans before you pay.
- Entry price is the same: $29 a month for HeyGen Creator and Synthesia Starter.
- Annual price: HeyGen Creator $24, Synthesia Starter $18 a month.
- Free: HeyGen 3 short videos; Synthesia 10 minutes a month.

## What should you look for in a HeyGen alternative, and which should you choose?

**Answer:** Start from the job, then test the free plan with one real script, then compare the metered unit: credits, minutes or seconds.

Write down the job first: a presenter who speaks your script, a translated version of an existing video, a training course with SCORM export, a talking character, or an explainer with no presenter. Each alternative above lists a different strength, and the plans meter use differently.

Then run the same 60 second script on each free plan you can reach, note the watermark and credits used, and check commercial terms for the plan you would buy. D-ID lists a personal use license on its Trial and a commercial use license from Pro, and HeyGen and Synthesia remove their watermark on the first paid plan. Check the cancellation rule before buying annual: HeyGen's cancellations take effect at the end of the billing cycle.
- Presenter videos in many languages: HeyGen or Synthesia.
- Training with SCORM export: Colossyan or HeyGen Business.
- Lowest avatar-tool entry price and an API: D-ID.
- Talking characters and lip sync by the second: Hedra.
- Explainer without a presenter, from a larger brief: FluxGravity, with the limits above.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which is better, Synthesia or HeyGen?

We did not test either tool, so we cannot say. On paper they match on entry price ($29 a month) and differ in how they meter use. HeyGen Creator is $24 a month billed annually for 600 credits, while Synthesia Starter is $18 billed yearly for 1,250 credits plus 10 free minutes a month. Run the same script on both free plans.

### Can I use Synthesia for free?

Yes. Synthesia's Basic plan is free and includes 10 minutes of video, 3 survey responses and 500 credits every month, renewing monthly. Videos made on it carry a Synthesia watermark, and Starter ($29 a month, or $18 billed yearly) removes the Synthesia logo.

### What is the best AI for video enhancement?

We did not rank enhancement tools, because this page compares avatar and explainer video makers. Documented prices for upscaling in tools we read: HeyGen charges 1 credit a second to upscale to 1080p and 2 credits a second to 4K, and Runway lists unlimited 4K video upscaling on Pro and Max. FluxGravity does not list video enhancement.

### Is HeyGen free?

There is a Free plan: $0 a month, up to 3 videos a month of up to 1 minute each, with access to Avatar IV, 500+ stock avatars and 30+ languages. HeyGen's help center says the number of free videos is 1 to 3 depending on region, and free videos always carry the HeyGen watermark.

### How much does HeyGen cost?

Creator is $29 a month ($24 billed annually) with 600 credits. Pro starts at $49 a month ($41 annually) with 1,000 credits and scales to 100,000 credits at $4,300. Business is $149 a month ($119 annually) plus $20 per extra seat, with 1,500 credits. Enterprise is custom.

### Which HeyGen alternative has the lowest entry price?

Among the avatar tools, D-ID Lite is the lowest paid entry we found: $5.9 a month, or $4.7 a month billed annually, for 10 minutes a month with a D-ID watermark. Hedra Basic is $20 and Synthesia Starter is $29. FluxGravity Spark lists $5 a month but does not list avatar or lip-sync video, so it is not a like-for-like option.

### Does FluxGravity make avatar videos?

FluxGravity's pricing page does not list avatar video or lip-sync video, so this page does not recommend it for that job. It lists faceless explainers, whiteboard videos, maths animations and motion graphics among workflows on its paid plans. FluxGravity wrote this page.

### Can I cancel HeyGen at any time?

Yes. HeyGen says upgrades take effect immediately, while downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing cycle, so you keep the plan and credits until then. After you cancel, your account moves to the Free plan and unused credits do not carry over.

### How was this HeyGen alternatives page researched?

We read the pricing pages and help centers of HeyGen, Synthesia, D-ID, Colossyan, Hedra and FluxGravity on October 18, 2026. We did not generate video in any tool, so the page makes no claim about avatar realism or quality. FluxGravity wrote this page and is listed last.
