## How much does Runway cost per month?

**Answer:** Runway costs $0 on the Free plan, $15 a month for Standard ($12 billed annually), $35 for Pro ($28), $95 for Max ($76) and $69 per seat for Team ($55 billed yearly).

These are the prices on Runway's pricing page and Team plan page on October 18, 2026. Annual billing is 20% off: Runway says it saves $36 a year on Standard, $84 on Pro and $228 on Max. Every paid plan includes monthly credits: 625 on Standard, 2,250 on Pro, 9,500 on Max and 6,900 per seat on Team. Enterprise pricing is custom.

Runway sells API access separately, pay as you go, with credits at $0.01 each. The iPhone app is free to download, and its App Store listing shows in-app purchases of $14.99 a month for Standard, $35.00 for Pro, $95.00 for Max and $143.99 a year for Standard, so store prices can differ slightly from the web.
- Free: $0, 125 one-time credits.
- Standard: $15 a month, or $12 billed annually, 625 credits a month.
- Pro: $35 a month, or $28 billed annually, 2,250 credits a month. Max: $95, or $76 billed annually, 9,500 credits a month.
- Team: $69 per seat a month, or $55 billed yearly, 6,900 credits per seat, for two to nine people.

## What does each Runway plan include, and who is it for?

**Answer:** Free is for a first test, Standard for light use, Pro for regular use with a brand kit, Max for heavy solo use with credit rollover, and Team for two to nine people who share one credit pool.

Free lists a selection of generative models to test concepts, 125 one-time credits and 5GB of storage. Standard lists access to all AI video and image models, 5 parallel generations, up to 3 projects, no watermarks, 4K upscaling and 20GB of storage; Runway's help center says it suits light, exploratory use rather than high-volume production.

Pro adds 15 parallel generations, up to 5 projects, 1 Brand Kit, 1 custom voice clone, top-up credits, Runway MCP and unlimited 4K video upscaling. Storage on Pro is 100GB on the pricing page but 500GB in the Pro help article, so the storage figure is not verified. Max adds 20 parallel generations, up to 10 projects, up to 3 Brand Kits, up to 3 voice clones, HDR, ProRes and image-sequence output, 500GB of storage and a one-month credit rollover.

Team includes everything in Max plus up to 100 shared projects, 1TB of workspace storage, one pooled credit balance with a one-month rollover, frame-accurate commenting, 20 shared agent skills, up to 100 Brand Kits, 24 parallel generations, API access and priority support. Enterprise has custom credits, unlimited members and admin controls such as SSO.
- Standard: 5 parallel generations, 3 projects, 20GB.
- Pro: 15 parallel generations, 5 projects, 1 Brand Kit, 1 custom voice clone.
- Max: 20 parallel generations, 10 projects, 500GB, HDR and ProRes output.
- Team: 2 to 9 seats, shared credit pool, 1TB, commenting and shared skills.

## How do Runway credits work, and what runs out first?

**Answer:** Credits are spent per generation by model, duration and resolution. On Standard and Pro the monthly credits run out first and reset at the next billing date, Max rolls over up to one month, and purchased credits never expire.

Runway says Gen-4.5 uses 12 credits per second of video, so a 5 second clip is 60 credits and a 10 second clip is 120. The pricing page lists other rates: Aleph 2.0 at 140 credits per 5 seconds, Seedance 2.0 Pro at 1080p at 160 credits per 4 seconds, and Seedance 2.0 Fast at 116 credits per 4 seconds.

Runway spends credits in a set order: this month's plan credits first, then rollover credits, then purchased credits. Plan credits reset within 24 hours of your billing date. The Free plan's 125 credits are a one-time deposit that does not expire. You can buy more credits from the Plans and Billing page with a 1,000-credit minimum, and bought credits never expire. Free-plan users cannot buy credits.

Credits come back automatically only when a generation ends in an error. If a generation completes, the credits are spent even when the result does not match your prompt or is otherwise unsatisfying. Runway's own tips for stretching credits are to use shorter durations, try image models before video, start without audio and use turbo video models.
- Gen-4.5: 12 credits per second, 60 credits for 5 seconds.
- Spending order: plan credits, then rollover, then purchased credits.
- Top-up: minimum 1,000 credits; purchased credits never expire.
- Refund of credits: only for generation errors.

## How much does a second of Runway video cost?

**Answer:** On Gen-4.5, a second costs about $0.12 on Max billed monthly, on a monthly Team seat, on bought credits and through the API; about $0.10 on annual Max and Team; and $0.15 to $0.29 on Standard and Pro, by our arithmetic from Runway's published numbers.

The table below divides each plan's price by the seconds of Gen-4.5 that Runway says the plan's credits buy: 52 on Standard, 187 on Pro and 791 on Max. For Team we use 6,900 credits per seat divided by 12 credits per second, which is 575 seconds. These are our calculations, not Runway prices, and they assume every credit goes to Gen-4.5 and every clip is kept.

Real cost per usable second is higher if you need several attempts, because Runway returns credits only for generation errors. Other models cost more or less per second: Runway's help center gives 10 seconds of Veo 3.1 with audio as 400 credits, which is 40 credits per second against 12 for Gen-4.5.
- Standard billed monthly: about $0.29 a second. Billed annually: about $0.23.
- Pro billed monthly: about $0.19. Billed annually: about $0.15.
- Max billed monthly: about $0.12. Billed annually: about $0.10.
- Bought credits in the iPhone app: $10 for 1,000 credits, about $0.12 a second.

## What are the Free plan's real limits?

**Answer:** Free gives 125 credits once, which do not expire or renew, plus 5GB of storage and a limited model selection; videos carry a Runway watermark and you cannot buy credits on it.

Runway's pricing page labels the Free plan "Free forever", but its help center says the 125 credits are a one-time deposit that does not renew or refresh once spent. After that you need a paid plan. Runway's own conversion for Standard is 625 credits for 52 seconds of Gen-4.5, so by the same arithmetic 125 credits is about 10 seconds, if the model is included on Free.

Runway says the models on the Free plan change, and a model that shows an upgrade prompt is not included. All videos generated on a Free plan feature a Runway watermark, and Runway says you can generate without a watermark on the Standard plan or above. Credits cannot be purchased on Free.

If you cancel a paid plan and fall back to Free, your assets and projects stay, but you cannot create new projects if you have more than three, and generations made on the Free tier carry watermarks even when you spend credits you bought earlier.
- 125 credits, one time; no renewal.
- 5GB of asset storage.
- Watermarked videos.
- No credit purchases; upgrade to Standard or above.

## What hidden costs and rules does Runway have?

**Answer:** Watch for credits spent on results you do not keep, third-party models that cost more per second, seat charges for collaborators, a 1,000-credit minimum for top-ups, and promotions that end.

Credits for completed generations are not returned, even for a result you do not like. Runway says third-party models, video with audio and longer videos use more credits than image models, turbo models and short clips. Collaboration needs a Team plan: Runway's plan guide says adding collaborators requires Team or higher, and Team has a minimum of 2 seats at $69 a seat on monthly billing. An older billing article describes extra members being charged at the workspace owner's rate, so confirm the rule in your account before you invite anyone.

Promotions end. The Max card says Wan 3.0 is unlimited in Tool Mode until October 18, and Runway says that when a promotion ends the item returns to standard credit pricing with no refund or bonus credits. Unlimited Mode, which generates without using credits on supported models, is available on Pro and Max, may take longer to start and runs fewer jobs at once.

Commercial use: Runway says the content you create is yours to use without non-commercial restrictions from Runway, and you do not have to credit Runway. Read the Terms of Use for specifics before you rely on that for client work.
- Top-ups: 1,000 credits minimum; no top-ups on Free.
- Team: minimum 2 seats; each added seat costs $69 on monthly billing.
- Unlimited Mode: Pro and Max only, slower start, fewer jobs at once.
- Promotions: end without refund or bonus credits.

## Which Runway plan should you choose?

**Answer:** Start on Free to test, move to Standard for a few clips a month, pick Pro for regular work, Max for heavy solo use and Team if two to nine people share work; developers should price the API instead.

Match the plan to how many seconds of video you expect to keep, not how many you generate, then add a margin for retries. Monthly plan credits on Standard and Pro are lost at the next billing date, so a smaller plan plus bought credits can cost less than a larger plan you do not use.

Annual billing is 20% cheaper per month but paid up front, and Runway refunds only in limited cases. If you are unsure, start monthly. Runway's plan guide also says you can change plans at any time, with upgrades prorated and downgrades credited toward the next billing cycle.
- Testing Runway: Free, then Standard ($15 a month) for 52 seconds of Gen-4.5.
- A few clips a month: Standard, topping up with credits if needed.
- Regular creator, brand kit, unlimited 4K upscaling: Pro ($35 a month).
- Heavy solo use, rollover, HDR and ProRes: Max ($95 a month).
- A small team sharing credits: Team ($69 per seat, two to nine seats).
- Building software: the API at $0.01 per credit.

## How does Runway API pricing work?

**Answer:** Runway's API bills credits at $0.01 each per generation: Gen-4.5 is 12 credits per second ($0.12), Gen-4 Turbo is 5 credits ($0.05), and third-party models range from about $0.05 to $0.40 per second in the table below.

Runway's developer pricing page says each generation costs credits, which you buy at $0.01 per credit in the developer portal for a project. Its Dev pricing tab shows pay as you go pricing with video from $0.05 per second, images from $0.01 and audio from $0.0025 per second. A Model Router bills at the rate of whichever model it selects.

Credits or plans bought in the Runway app are completely separate from API credits, and each never appears in the other. Professional and HDR output formats add a surcharge: 5 credits per second for ProRes and PNG sequences, and 20 credits per second for 10-bit and HDR profiles on Gen-4.5 and Aleph 2.0.
- 1 credit = $0.01 in the API.
- Gen-4.5: 12 credits per second. Gen-4 Turbo: 5 credits per second.
- ProRes and PNG sequences add 5 credits per second.
- App credits and API credits do not mix.

## What happened to Gen-3 and the Unlimited plan?

**Answer:** Runway retired Gen-3 Alpha on July 8, 2026 and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo on July 30, 2026, so there is no current Gen-3 price, and the Unlimited plan is no longer offered; legacy subscribers move to Max on November 30, 2026.

Runway's help center says Gen-3 Alpha was retired on July 8, 2026 and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo on July 30, 2026. It points to Gen-4.5 for text to video and image to video, the Animate Frames app for keyframes, and Edit Studio with Aleph 2.0 for video to video. If you saw a Runway Gen-3 monthly price elsewhere, it is out of date.

Runway says Unlimited is no longer offered as of June 1, 2026, and Max replaced it. Eligible legacy Unlimited plans stay unchanged through November 30, 2026. Then monthly Unlimited subscribers move to Max at the same $95 a month, and annual subscribers can cancel for a refund of remaining months or take a credit bonus to move to Max. Unlimited had 2,250 credits plus Explore Mode, while Max has 9,500 credits and no Explore Mode.
- Gen-3 Alpha retired July 8, 2026; Gen-3 Alpha Turbo July 30, 2026.
- Unlimited: no longer offered since June 1, 2026.
- Legacy Unlimited moves to Max on November 30, 2026 at $95 a month.

## How do I cancel Runway or get a refund?

**Answer:** Cancel on your billing page by choosing Cancel plan and confirming in Stripe; you keep paid features until the cycle ends, and Runway may refund a plan renewed in the last 30 days that is unused or close to unused.

Go to the billing page in Runway, click Cancel plan, give feedback if you want, select Continue to cancel plan, then click Confirm cancellation in Stripe. The cancellation is not complete until that last step. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription, and iPhone subscriptions are cancelled through Apple. Switching from annual to monthly turns the remaining annual balance into an invoice credit.

Refunds are at Runway's discretion. Runway may refund a plan bought or renewed in the last 30 days if it is unused or close to unused, credits bought in the last 30 days that you have not used, or a plan you picked by mistake such as annual instead of monthly. A refund cancels the plan and removes unused plan credits, and Apple and Google Play purchases are refunded by those stores. Runway's refund article says there is no refund if an account suspension appeal is denied.
- Cancel: billing page, Cancel plan, then Confirm cancellation in Stripe.
- Refund window: 30 days, if unused or close to unused.
- Wrong plan chosen: switch plans and get the difference refunded.
- Mobile purchases: refund through Apple or Google Play.

## How does Runway pricing compare with other AI video tools?

**Answer:** Runway Standard at $15 a month sits between Kling Standard at $10 list and Luma Plus at $30, and credits are not a shared unit, so the table compares plan prices as plain facts and not output.

Sora is not an option: OpenAI says its web and app ended on April 26, 2026. The table lists Kling, Google, Luma, Pika and FluxGravity next to Runway, with the free option and the main limit for each. Credits are vendor-specific units, so a plan with more credits does not automatically buy more video.

FluxGravity wrote this page and appears for a narrow reason: it is an AI workspace and agent in which video is one output of a larger brief, alongside documents, slide decks, spreadsheets and research reports. Its pricing page lists Free ($0, 100 one-time credits), Spark ($5 a month, $4 billed annually), Pro ($20, $16) and Ultra ($50, $40), and lists its motion and storytelling workflows for paid plans. We did not test FluxGravity against Runway, and FluxGravity's cost per output is not known.
- Runway Standard: $15 a month, 625 credits.
- Kling Standard: $10 list, 660 credits. Luma Plus: $30, 10,000 credits.
- FluxGravity Spark: $5 a month, 650 credits; credits are not comparable across products.

## What a second of Gen-4.5 costs on each plan (our arithmetic)

Computed by FluxGravity from Runway's published numbers on October 18, 2026: plan price divided by the seconds of Gen-4.5 Runway states for the plan's credits (Standard 52, Pro 187, Max 791) or, for Team, 6,900 credits divided by 12 credits per second (575 seconds). Assumes all credits go to Gen-4.5 at 12 credits per second and every clip is kept. These are not Runway prices.

## Frequently asked questions

### How much does the Runway app cost?

The Runway iPhone app is free to download. Its App Store listing shows in-app purchases of $14.99 a month for Standard, $35.00 for Pro, $95.00 for Max, $143.99 a year for Standard and credit packs from $10 for 1,000 credits to $100 for 10,000. On the web, Standard is $15 a month or $12 billed annually.

### Is Runway worth the money?

We did not test Runway's output, so we cannot say whether results justify the cost. The pages show what you pay: Standard's 625 credits buy 52 seconds of Gen-4.5, Max's 9,500 credits buy 791 seconds, and credits are spent even on clips you discard. Try the Free plan's 125 one-time credits and start on monthly billing before you commit.

### How much does Runway Gen 3 cost per month?

Nothing, because Gen-3 is gone. Runway retired Gen-3 Alpha on July 8, 2026 and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo on July 30, 2026, and points to Gen-4.5 for text to video and image to video. Current plans start at $15 a month for Standard, or $12 billed annually.

### Is Runway free to use?

Partly. The Free plan gives 125 credits once, with 5GB of storage, a limited model selection and watermarked videos. The credits do not renew, and you cannot buy more on Free. Runway's pricing page labels the plan "Free forever", but the credits are a one-time deposit.

### Does Runway add a watermark to videos?

On the Free plan, yes: Runway says all videos generated on a Free plan feature a Runway watermark, and you can generate without one on Standard or above. If you downgrade to Free, new generations carry the watermark even when you spend credits you bought earlier.

### Can I use Runway videos commercially?

Runway says the content you create is yours to use without non-commercial restrictions from Runway, and you do not have to credit Runway. It points to its Terms of Use for specific questions, so read them before client work.

### Do Runway credits roll over?

Only on some plans. Standard and Pro credits reset within 24 hours of your billing date and do not roll over. Max and Team roll over up to one month of unused credits. Credits you buy never expire, and the Free plan's 125 credits do not expire but never renew.

### How do I cancel Runway?

Open your billing page, click Cancel plan, continue through the feedback step and click Confirm cancellation in Stripe. The cancellation is not complete until that last step. You keep paid features until the end of the billing cycle. iPhone subscriptions are cancelled through Apple.

### Can I get a refund from Runway?

Sometimes. Runway may refund a plan renewed in the last 30 days that is unused or close to unused, unused credits bought in the last 30 days, or a plan picked by mistake. Credits are returned automatically only when a generation errors. Refunds cancel the plan and remove unused plan credits.

### What does the Runway API cost?

Runway API credits cost $0.01 each. Gen-4.5 is 12 credits per second ($0.12), Gen-4 Turbo is 5 credits ($0.05) and Veo 3.1 with audio is 40 credits ($0.40). Runway says app credits and API credits are completely separate.

### How was this Runway pricing guide researched?

We read Runway's pricing page, Team plan page, help center articles, API pricing docs and App Store listing on October 18, 2026, plus pricing pages for the other tools in the comparison. We did not generate video in any tool. FluxGravity wrote this page and appears in the comparison.
